Having problem creating 2 circles...

Well it seemes simple,

Need to create 2 intersecting circles. Easy enough to patch the cross-section in 2-D mode.

But have the rings appear linked in 3-D mode with a bevel has resulted in several weird looking things

Please help!

Having problem creating 2 circles...

In the top image the circles are grouped, so the effect is applied to the group of two circles. In the bottom image, the circles are not grouped, so the effect is applied independently to each circle. Unfortunately I don鈥檇 know of a way to have the bevel only recognize the outer edge of the illustrator and not be applied where the rings intersect. That will require expanding the effect and manually editing the paths.

(Your JPEG is CMYK.)

Each chain is one simple closed path (a cross, a hexagon, and a circle) with four Fills. 3D Effect and two Transform Effects applied to each Fill. Each 3D Effect revolves 180掳. The Transform Effects position the four half-rings.

Correction:

Expand the strokes so they are now fills. Turn the group into a Live Paint group and use the Live Paint Bucket to fill areas as you wish, then use the Live Paint Selection Tool to delete the segments that are non needed. At top is the resulting outline. Group, then apply the 3D effect.

What you might consider is extruding the rings separately making them聽 symbols and the mapping the to a rectangle turned in to an extruded volume and given and invisible geometry that way they also rotate together well and you can give them a perspective. it might be possible do the same for intersecting rings. This way the rings do not join..

I'll give it a try, maybe this isn't the app to do this?

Any good freeware out there for this?
