W3C validator

Hello,

I am trying to include my Adobe Flash CS3 movies on my HTML websites. The website is validated XHTML 1.0 strict. It works fine in IE and is valid. (IE uses the OBJECT tag)?In Firefox, I cannot have my movie since the EMBED tag?is depreciated-If I do have the Flash movie included to work?in Firefox, it will not validate?since the?EMBED tag is depreciated. Is there any way to have it work in FireFox and be XHTML 1.0 Strict valid? My URL is:(Flash on top)

I haven't, but for the few I encountered that have, it apparently worked.

Trying to Print Document

Forgive me I am not really good at all this computer, technical stuff.?I have Adobe Reader 9 installed.?I am trying to print a document. I can see and read the document but when I go to print it all that prints is a large, empty rectangular box.?Any thoughts or suggestions on how to get it to print properly, before I throw my computer and printer out the window??Thank you in advance for your help!

Lisa

Edited to add it is an Adobe PDF file.

Trying to Print Document

Can you print from any other documents (WORD, TXT, etc) to a real printer? You do have to select a printer unless the default printer is what you want to use. We can't really see what you are doing, so if you can't figure out what I mentioned, then you will need to provide the individual steps you are using to try to print the PDF. You will need to tell us the name of the printer and such.

Trying to Print Document

Is this a problem with one document or all documents?

Lisa,

Did you try to add the file as an attachment to your post? If so, it didn't work.

Try to do it again as it can help us figure out what the problem is.

Thank you?for all your responses.?I am able to print from email, word documents etc.. We have a HP 2410xi Photosmart Printer. The document?is 55 pages, and I have tried to print different pages and none of them will print.?I can't attatch the document because it is a file that I paid for and I think it would affect the copyright if I posted it? Sorry If I am not giving enough information to help me.?It just seems weird that I am able to print everything else, just not this PDF file.?I was hoping it was just an easy fix.?Thank you all for your help.

Lisa

Ah! Check ctrl-D%26gt;Security. Sounds like you do not have permission to print it. Sometimes this is done to prevent copying. Anyway, sure sounds like a security issue.

I did check by pressing Control D.?It says Printing ALLOWED....?

I am about to give up.?Thank you for all your suggstions.

When you open the printing dialog, check what is selected in the ''Comments and Forms'' drop-down box (sorry, I don't have the English version in front me right now, it might be called something else, but the first option is ''Document only''). I'm thinking that maybe the creator placed a hidden (but printable) form field over the content to prevent printing it, or something like that.

Try printing using each of the preferences in the drop-down box and see if it makes any difference...

%26gt;Reader 9 installed

You might try the Reader forum http://forums.adobe.com/community/adobe_reader_forums

Hey Lisa,

Make sure that you have highlighted what you would like printed. On the print set up screen and just below the Properties button is the Comments and Forms button. Be sure you highlight the one to fit your needs. Be especially deligent when you recieve a marked up document. In Reader there are three choices, in Writer there are four. In order for everything to print with a marked up document one needs to highlight Documents and Markups.

Not sure if this helps.

Cheers kserre

    Basic color management questions

    Sarah,

    Deep subject, so this will only touch the surface.

    What is the difference in backgrounds between additive and subtractive process color systems?

    How is white formed differently in additive and subtractive process systems?

    RGB blends ''light'' to generate colors.?CMYK blends ''inks''.?Starting with RGB and light.....pure white blends high levels of red, green and blue wavelengths in approximate equal amounts, which we perceive as white.?In Photoshop parlance, using 8-bit, this translates to 255R, 255G, 255B.?When we see an object, we are actually seeing the light that reflects from that object, not the object itself.?So, a bright white object reflects most of the visible light spectrum and reaches our eye, which the brain interprets to be white.?A black object ''absorbs'' light so nothing is reflected to the eye.

    To print, you need inks on paper, not light.?If you were to use red, green and blue inks, you'd have a big problem printing colors like yellow.?So, they devised the subtractive color process (RGB is additive, ie, adding all three lights together gives you white).?They took the opposite colors of Red, green and blue, which are Cyan, Magenta and Yellow.?In theory, you should be able to create the same spectrum of colors with the CMY subtractive colors that you can with the RGB additive colors, but in practice, that is not the case, for at least two reasons.?The CMY inks are not pure and as intense as the RGB primaries, and second, you have to apply these inks to paper, which drastically limits dynamic range.?To deal with the ink purity problem, (and to give better type), they add Black to the CMY mix, for four inks....Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black.?To get white, you rely on the paper alone, without any ink.?In theory, pure black would be either 100C, 100M, 100Y, or it could be 100K (black), or it could be 100% each of CMYK.?But, these three do not give the same results, due to ink purity, ink limits,?paper, process, etc.

    How are the non-process colors like orange formed differently in the additive and subtractive process systems? What colors from each system forms an orange?

    Why is the difference in the process of color formation of major concern with the use of computers in the preparation of materials for 4-color process color printing?

    In the CMYK world, orange is a mixture of Yellow and Magenta inks, with more yellow than magenta.?For example, 52M, 94Y gives a fairly vibrant orange.?Again, hue, saturation and brightness are dictated by the mix percentages, paper, ink limits, ink purity, etc.?In the RGB world, this same color is defined as 255R, 143G, 33B (depending on the ''flavor'' (color spaces) of RGB and CMYK you are using.?There is a relationship between RGB and CMYK, and this example is no exception.?When red is maxed out at 255, cyan is the opposite, in this case zero.?In this orange color, Green is 143, near the middle of the range, and so is its opposite, Magenta, which is near the middle of its range, at 52.?Blue is 33, at the very low end of its range, and its opposite, Yellow, is near the top of its range at 94.?Since this is a bright color, there is no black ink used at all.?If it were a darker orange, there would probably be some black in as well.

    Some colors can be created in RGB that cannot be duplicated in CMYK.?The opposite is also usually true, that there are colors in CMYK that cannot be duplicated in RGB (depending on the color space you use).?If your intended output is a monitor, the internet, email, or a printer that needs ''light'' you would generally use RGB.?If the intent is to ''print'' the job, on a press, inkjet, laser, etc, then CMYK is generally used.?Even if you send an RGB file to your inkjet, the printer driver translates the RGB colors to CMYK in the background before output.?Most, if not all, printers use CMYK subtractive inks for printing,?These can generate a large portion of the printable spectrum.?Some printers add light cyan and light magenta inks, or even red, green, blue, orange, and other colors to help extend the color gamut of the printer so it can achieve colors that would be ''out of gamut'' using CMYK alone.

    Another difference is that CMYK is a four color process, unlike RGB, which is three color.?A given color has only ONE definition when defined in RGB, HSB, L*a*b*, or other 3 component color schemes.?With CMYK, many colors can be created using different mixes of CMYK, which adds complexity, but also offers opportunities and flexibility, especially on press.

    Like I said at the beginning, this is a very deep and complex subject, and this only touches on the basics.

    Basic color management questions

    Hi Sarah -

    Your opening statement is about color management:

    Having difficult understanding some concepts in color management - would appreciate any guidance to further understand it.

    Some of these sound like color theory questions.

    In the commercial print world I often hear ''why can't we print with RGB?'' The reason is pretty simple. R + G + B = White. If you shine white light through a red filter, then a green filter, then a blue filter, you get white light.

    If you printed with red, green and blue ink, you would get mud, more or less. So the workaround is the subtractive color model CMY. Shine white light through a Green and Red filter, you get yellow. The other RGB component - Blue - is what is missing. So this is subtracted from RGB white to get yellow.

    Logic is the same for Magenta and Cyan. Blue and Red light = Magenta, so Green is subtracted. Green and Blue light = Cyan, so red is subtracted.

    In CMY the white component is the base (paper). In RGB the black component is the base (monitor). So if the question ''why can't we print with RGB'' is one side of the coin, the other is ''why can't we have a white monitor?'' (maybe one day)

    Anyway, the subtractive colors all have empirical opposite colors as I stated - Cyan has Red, Yellow has Blue, and Magenta has Green. If you have RGB filters you can arrive at very crude CMY print components for an image (this is how they did it in the old days, with film and big cameras). Today this can be replicated in Photoshop. Take an RGB image, Mode: Multichannel. The channel data does not change at all, just the channel names. The onscreen color appearance drastically changes, much for the worse. Don't save your image if you do this.

    CMY is often confused with the primary colors everyone remembers from grade school. There is common ground, but CMY is not like red, green and yellow paint. One difference is the CMY components are all very light colors. CMY inks are also transparent, and allow other inks to show through them on the same sheet of paper. The color mixing occurs as the inks are printed in sequence (unlike paints, which can be mixed together before being applied to the canvas). You can mix red, green, and blue paints to make all sorts of colors, but if you need light colors, you have to add white. In commercial offset printing white ink is hardly ever used, and it's not designed to mix with other inks in a print sequence (it's opaque).

    CMY is very limiting. If it was a perfect world, all we would need is CMY and we could print anything. The problem is the paper is never white enough, and the inks are never vibrant enough, or even dark enough. Well, they addressed the dark problem with black. CMY together do make black, but it's a lot of ink, and you still end up with an impure black. So the black ink (in a traditional color separation) is added to accentuate the darker areas of images, where CMY falls short.

    Why not CMYB? Long ago black was referred to as the key color. A lot of history there, but it is helpful to think of black as the ''key'' in a CMYK image. I mentioned that you can build an image with CMY, and add black to accentuate shadows. But what if I tried a different approach? I could make a black and white image using black ink, and use CMY to add color to that. Today this is done quite a bit - the advantage is a LOT less ink is used. The disadvantage with making black the foundation of a color image - the quality usually isn't as good. But if it's a cheap newsprint job the ink savings can be worth it.

    I don't know what to do... I've been looking everywhere for an answer and it can't be found. maybe it's a glitch in the mac osx operating system.

    any image i've imported to the library become a green box on the stage. when the scene or movie is previewed the image appears but i'm unable to see it otherwise. can someone please explain why i cannot see a jpg that has been imported on the stage???

    Chance are you have the ''Show layers as outlines'' selected for that layer (possibly all).?On the timeline where the layer name is there are three icons at the top right... an eyeball, a lock, and a rectangle.?Try clicking the rectangle symbol... that is how you switch the outline mode on/off.?You can control it for individual layers or for all at once.

    PEAAAASE help meee

    hmm, yeah that's exactly how it looks. but it's not set to ''show as outline''. is there a preference or option that defaults a placed image as being shown as only an outline?

    With FlexUnit 4 in Flash Builder 4 Plugin Beta, I created 1 suite with 1 class with 1 default failing test method. When I ran it, the assert failure had a call stack 60 methods high. Is this a bug?

    The stack trace has several ''async'' methods, e.g. applyExplosivelyAsync(). This seems strange because?I'm not using async at all. Is this intended behavior?

    FlexUnit 4 is really just a collection of runners that can handle just about anything that is thrown at it as well as handle any pluggable runners that others write. The level of extensibility comes with some complexity. So, by the time that single method of yours is executed, there are actually probably a hundreds methods in the framework for getting everything setup, inspected and ready to go.

    The stacktrace always looks up the stack from your failure to the last point where a particular chunk of code execution began, so the 60 is basically just that number of methods. There isn't a whole lot that can be done about it save for eventually provinding filtering to eliminate showing some of our stuff and making the track more legible.

    Regarding the async thing, your method isn't async but FlexUnit4 is. Inside of the Flash Player we are operating on frames. We don't have the luxury of threads and the like that Java has, so we have to handle the possibility that something might be async on a much deeper level. We also do something called green threading where we actually watch how much time we take in execution. Once we have taken 90% ish of the time available in a given frame, we wait until the next one before we begin executing again. This allows us to run long and compelx test suites without getting a timeout from the flash player (which happens if any single frame takes longer than 15 seconds to execute). So, even though your method isn't doing anything async, all of these other pieces have to account for the chance that something will be. Hence the reason that you see async pieces in the stack trace.

    Hope that helps,

    Mike

    FlexUnit 4 assert failures have...

    Thanks for the explanation, Mike. Pluggable runners sound interesting--what's being worked on in that area (you or others)?

    Robert

    I am curious, though--what does ''explosively async'' mean?

    Another question: If I wrote my own minimalist test runner, where would I plug that into FlexUnit? What would the key interfaces be? How much of that stack trace could I potentially eliminate and how much would necessarily remain if I plug into FlexUnit?

    The FU4 and FU1 support as well as theories and parameterized tests are all actually pluggable runners already. In addition, the community has written pluggable runners that support FUnit, Structured Log Testing and a few other testing frameworks which will be made available soon (projects not under my control so I don't think I should comment on them just yet). It effectively means that FU4 is responsible for identifying a test but then hands off execution to a separate class.

    To be a pluggable runner, you simply need to implement 1 interface (org.flexunit.runner.IRunner) and be able to provide the descriptions and hand-shaking required. You specify that you wish to use a plugable runner via the RunWith metadata

    You could absolutely write your own to eliminate some of the stacktrace overhead (but there would still be some while FU4 introspects the classes and figures out that you intend to run in a separate runner).

    Mike

    invokeExplosivelyAsync basically means to invoke the method, not automatically assumign that the end of the method call is the end of the test, and to anticipate that it just might explode

    Imported jpgs are displayed as a green...

    in adobe flash cs4 professional. how do you see the image?

    Imported jpgs are displayed as a green...

    You probably have the outline mode turned on for the layer(s) that the images are sitting in. In the Timeline window there are three icons on the right side of the layer name. The first toggles the visible property of the layer's contents, the second locks the layer, and the third toggles the ''View layer as outlines'' option. Turn that off and and you should see the images and not just the bounding box.

    another one of naming and retrieving

    hi, i am trying to deal with some sprites i have created via script. each one can have draings and stuff, but in particular, all have a textfield inside.

    something like (not the current code, but to give you an idea)

    var _newtext:textfield = new textfield();

    _newtext.name = ''textname'';

    //

    some_array[some_pos] = new sprite();

    some_array[some_pos].addchild(_newtext);

    (...)

    // this gets the sprite in the array as parameter, they all have a textfield called 'textname' (not current name, but same case)

    function whatever(some_sprite:sprite, etc):void {

    // tried this:

    some_sprite.textname.x = x_value; // gives error

    // also this

    var mytextfield:textfield = (textfield)some_sprite.getChildByName(''textname''); // i dont know if there is casting in as3, but it also gives error.

    }

    in any case, what i am trying to do is access the properties of the textfiled defined in each sprite. it is not that there is no textfield named whatever inside the sprite, i defined it and i added with addchild when i created it, same for any sprite that gets there. how do i access the textfield inside?

    tnx

    another one of naming and retrieving

    use the getChildByName() method of your parent movieclip:

    var yourtextfield:TextField = TextField(some_array[some_pos].getChildByName(''textname));

    another one of naming and retrieving

    it worked!, though i made many naive mistakes on the same function (declaring a variable name the same as a parameter name, i dont know why flash didnt give a warning or error though, using textField instead of TextField (t instead of T),?they are both valid and reserved words, but even if they are the same -now i dont know- they are not parsed as the same), and tried both without casting and with casting, it works with casting only -now i know how to cast in as3-

    How can FMS create a text file and...

    Recently, I writed a programe about creating a text file and writing data into it in the server application folder. My code is as following:

    var fileObj = new File(''/MyApp/test.txt'');
    if( fileObj !=?null)
    {
    ?if(fileObj.open( ''text'', ''append''))
    ?{

    ?fileObj.close( );
    ?trace(''Chat info backup document :'' +?fileObj.name + '' has been created successfully!'');
    ?}
    ?}

    But when I run it, FMS throw the error as following: File operation open failed?;?TypeError: fileObj has no properties.

    Can you help me ? Thanks in advance.

    Supplement: The text file named test.txt doesn't exist before create the fileObj, an instance of File Class.

    How can FMS create a text file and...

    Is MyApp the name of the application directory, or is it a child of the application directory? If myApp is the app name, just use test.txt as the path flag in the file constructor.

  • Problem exporting to tape

    I have recently upgraded my system to meet HDV requirements. System is Vista 64 bit, 2.83 Ghz Core 2 quad, 4 Ghz RAM, Nvidia G Force 9600GT video card with 512 Mhz RAM and separate drives for video (raid 0) etc etc. I am set up for PAL 25 fps and completed a small 15 minute project. Checked all settings and selected Export to Tape. Everything whent well.....for 4 and a half minutes then Canon HV40 camera displays message ''Check HDV/DV input''. This happens every time after about 4 - 5 minutes. However, Premiere Elements 7 continues to show ''recording to tape''. Very frustrating. Capturing video from camera to computer is faultless.

    Has anyone had this problem?

    Problem exporting to tape

    I have never had any problems, but then I use the tips in this ARTICLE, prior to every editing session.

    Good luck,

    Hunt

    Problem exporting to tape

    Thank you Hunt,

    After reading some of the threads in ''More Like This'' column on the right, I have little confidence in either Adobe or Canon resolving this particular problem. A phone call to Canon Support a waste of time. They ''do not support third party software...''. Adobe Support Portal are still working on my problem.

    A profesional film maker friend of mine has the exact same problem with CS4 and a Canon G1. He was alarmed at the number of simular issues found in various forums on the web.

    Cheers

    I encourage you to contact Adobe and advise them of your frustration.

    Thank you Steve,

    Yes I have contacted Adobe on this matter and I am waiting for their next response in the Support Portal. As a matter of interest, I opened a new project in PE7 and created a time line with 7 minutes of Bar and Tone, still had the same problem, and yet another time line with blank video only - no audio, same problem!

    Cheers

    Flash is dead - and this is why

    I've been using Flash for ten years and, as a designer, I find that I simply CANNOT use it anymore whether I want to or not.

    How can I make sense of spending ten minutes writing code to tell a button to get a new page ?

    It used to be SO simple with Get URL?ON the button.?But now I'm told that code CANNOT be applied

    to a button - rather I have to write STUPIDLY verbose code to reference that button's instance, write an event listener for it,

    do all kinds of - oh - HOLD ON - I'm already bored - I was just trying to make a simple button do a simple thing.

    And all this just to make a LINK !

    This must be the worst example in history of a company taking a great product which millions of people loved

    and then ''upgrading'' it to make it desirable to a tiny minority.

    EXACTLY the opposite of Sketch Up.

    Flash could have taken over the net and it was doing well (under Macromedia).

    But it has now become a VERY expensive thing to buy, a VERY complicated thing to use and a BIG TURN OFF

    for designers and front end players who want to do cool stuff.

    Is anyone else old enough to remember Director ?

    Started out well but became too complex (and expensive) for anyone creative to get involved with - so they launched Flash.

    And oh look - it's all just a little bit of history repeating...

    RIP Flash - it was fun while it lasted.

    Flash is dead - and this is why

    I don't think Flash is dead.?AS3 is way harder to learn than AS2.?If you're not a genius you need a strong desire to learn it and something of a monk like devotion really master it.?I hardly have a monk like dicipline but I love the power of it.?Unfortunately?most developers aren't hard core programmers.?If you made a class or a group of classes out of some frequent task you might find that it makes life easier.?The rub of course you have to go through all that training.?It IS very verbose but it's also very granular.?If you should come over to the dark side I can point you to some really good tutorials that brought me up to speed quickly and almost painlessly. It's your choice the red pill or the blue pill.

    Flash is dead - and this is why

    I hear you - point me to those places, I will go with an unwilling face but an open mind.

    Well AS2 still works up to Flash 10, so you can still use it.

    The problem is: when you have to work on a file that already contains AS3 you HAVE to use AS3.

    Making both compatible with each other seems to be an almost impossible Task, because the underlying ''virtual machine'' is completely different.

    The way objects on the stage are organized is very different.

    As a programmer I found AS3 to be a big step forward, because of performance and more control you get of the objects on stage. But still sometimes it makes the impression of being not fully developed. I hate the way events work, not as flexible as it could be and they're some bigger annoyances like this: If there is a movieclip instance ''ball'' on frame2 of your movieclip and you jump to frame 2, ''ball'' isn't accessible immediately, you have to ''catch'' it with an Event that tells you that ''ball'' has been put on the stage. This alone is really awkward.

    I still like the simplicity of AS2, it really gets things done way faster if it needs to be ''quick n dirty''.

    Up to now, you can still even use AS1 if you want to, it can be selected in the profile.

    I think AS2 will be kept for a longer time and before Adobe ever dumps it, there should be an alternative for it like ''AS light'' or however it could be called.

    ActionScript 3.0 in Flash CS3 Professional Essential Training

    ActionScript 3.0 in Flash CS3 Professional Beyond the Basics

    both at Lynda.com

    Another reason I think Flash will live on is that it's not totally propritary it exist in the open source world http://www.osalt.com/flash so even if Adobe totally screws it up it will probably live on.

    Remember tho, that in AS2 although you could appply code to a button, it still wasn't best practice.?Best practice was to use a function and reference the instance in the same manner of AS3.

    In that sense, it's not that much different.

    keeping watermarks constant size

    Hi - I have created an action to embed a watermark.聽 The action keeps the text layers so the text can be moved and/or resized.聽 However I want the text to be the same size on all images automatically instead of what I do now which is command-T to grab text box聽 and dragging to resize text.

    I don't want to resize image - but resize watermark.聽 Below is snapshot of my layers created by action.聽聽

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    keeping watermarks constant size

    So are you saying there is no way to create a sequence of events to enable the watermark to have the same size in a photo?聽聽 How do others do it who must have many images of differing sizes but their watermark is always the same size.

    Do You mean same size or the same in relation to width or height?

    Because You probably have portrait and landscape-photos.

    I mean same size in relation to height.聽聽 My watermark goes continually across the picture so its the height that is what matters.聽聽 Not just the position but also the size of the font in relation to the picture.聽 So all the watermarks look identical in size.

    Here is example of what is happening.聽聽 Same action on 2 photos of different sizes.聽聽 I want the watermark to remain the same so it fits.

    I鈥檓 tempted to recommend Scripting the operation, but You can probably achieve it with an Action.

    Resizing the images to a specific height without Resampling might be a way.

    I meant same size as in resolution. the resolution must be the same.

    It seems like you're trying to re-size the text to fit the photo. Do it the other way around: resize the photo to fit the text.

    Based on my assumption that these are for on-line viewing (web gallery, etc.), the workflow would be to first crop/size all the jpegs for the web, and then add the watermark. This can be done fairly easily in Lr, Ps, iView, etc.

    CSS or What?

    Can someone assist as I don't know how to accomplish this tasks. I would like for all the squares

    areas to stay the same as I will be placing pictures and linking them with videos.

    Basically, I would like for the first row to look like the 2nd and 3rd rows once I place pictures in them.

    Attached you will find the codes within the doc and html.

    Thanks for your help.

    Akaya

    CSS or What?

    Where to even start.?You have a bunch of tables that look like this:

    ...%26lt;td%26gt;%26lt;p%26gt;text line 1%26lt;/p%26gt;%26lt;p%26gt;text line 2%26lt;/p%26gt;....

    Then you have a bunch of:

    %26lt;p%26gt;?lt;/p%26gt;..

    And I mean a lot of those.?Use cellpadding from the properties window on your cells to create the padding you need.?Don't use extra paragraphs.?Tables will stay to a height, if they are not maxed out, but if you keep pushing content into the table it will overflow by altering the height of your cell because it has to go somewhere.

    My suggestion would be to get rid of those extra paragraphs, stick to a format of name/title/etc and just set the cellpadding for your table via the properties window in DW.?Then you should end up with table cells of relatively the same height.

    CSS or What?

    At the moment, the cells in the top row are being set at the height they are because you have content in them.

    The other rows are only being propped open by the fact that you have used %26lt;p%26gt; tags to add the space.

    A table cell will shrink or expand depending on what is inside the cell, there is no getting around that. Even adding a percentage width will not ensure that they stay the same width, again due to the content inside them.

    Unless your 2nd and 3rd row cells contain exactly the same elements as the top row, they will change in size, again depending on what you insert into the cells.

    You also really need to take all the styling out of the html and style the content with a stylesheet... that way at least you have a bit more control over table widths and cell widths.

    Which tool will do this

    I'd create the base plate (background) as one image, and the knob as another. In Flash, the knob would be moveable (you will want to do several locations in the rotation).

    Obviously, PS is not really an interactive content program. The Extended version does have some AV capabilities, but what you want is interaction.

    Which tool will do this

    If not Flash, then maybe you could do this using Javascript.

    Or, failing that, Java itself/

    I think if it goes to 11 you'll get a little more punch...

    So you actually create the individual images in PS then animate them in flash?

    When I hover over a menu button it turns white in IE and transparent in FF for about 2 seconds then displays the correct hover image. This happens the first time you hover, then it behaves normally after that.

    The most important error is that the page isn't using a doctype.?This could account for the bugginess of the page.?A page without a doctype will render CSS in quirks mode and not display the page as intended in some browsers.

    Please insert a doctype at the top of the document, then put the page through the validator again to see what errors remain, fix those, and hopefully the page will load OK.?I didn't look at the navbar images, but make sure that they are optimized for the web, because that can also cause a slow down on loading them.

    I recommend using the transitional doctype.

    Nadia,

    I added the doctype and I'll work on correcting those errors shown in the html validator. However I think what you said about the button images possibly needing to be web optimized might indeed be the problem. When you hover over a button for the first time, it takes 1-2 seconds for the hover image to load, then once the image has loaded you can hover again and it displays immediatly. The images are 7-10 kb each. Does that seem too large to be web optimized?

    I can see you're very generous with your time helping so many people here and I thank you kindly for your response!

    Feature Request

    First let me start by saying, wow, wonderful product.?I've integrated it into my workflow, and just love it.?Anyway, something that would save a ton of time would be if the urls you type were saved and appeared as you were typing..?Kind of like how firefox or chrome's url bar is...?Sorry if this has been said before

    Love it!?cant wait to see some more browsers, or even a mobile viewer too for like iphone safari pre's browser etc..

    Feature Request

    Thanks for your feedback Damon!

    I will pass your request along to the product team.

    Best regards,

    Airtight Simpleviewer gallery

    I am trying to create an Airtight SImpleview gallery from Lightroom.

    1) How can I get the row of thumbnails to scroll.?I just want one long vertical line of thumbnails, but instead of make a scroll, it's just cutting it off.

    I know I could just use the Lightroom Flash Gallery Option, but that create an HTML file as the final product.?I need to use something that creates an SWF as the final.?I need to embed it inside an HTML.?I know could use HTML frames, but would rather keep it simpe and just use and SWF.

    2)?is there anyway to get rid of the text at the bottom that says ''simpleviewer''

    Thanks

    Airtight Simpleviewer gallery

    SimpleViewer doesn't have a scrolling thumbnail design. You can create a line under the image by choosing Position: Bottom, settings Rows to 1 and then setting Columns to something realistic, like 10. An arrow then appears beside the thumbs to indicate there are more. If you choose a much higher number, the thumbs will get cut off, because you've forced them past the screen edge.

    You mention that SimpleViewer is an SWF. It's also an XML file and folders for galleries and thumbs. Without them, nothing will happen.

    To get rid of the SimpleViewer logo, you need to go to Airtight Interactive and purchase the full version.

    PSE 8 questions

    I currently have PSE 7 and have been frustrated with the movie playback of HD footage from my point and shoot, the lack of facial recognition that auto tags, and no facebook integration.?I have been toying with switching to Picasa which has all of the above.?Now with PSE 8 - it looks like the facial recognition is in, but I have read posts about jerky video playback.?I have been loyal to Adobe, using Elements back when it was just an organizer.?I like the layout and ease of tagging.?I have a large, tagged, photo collection which is why I am hesitant to switch to another program.

    1.?Is there a approval process for the facial recognition??What happens if it tags the wrong person?

    2.?Is there facebook integration?

    3.?Can I run both PSE7 and 8 to try PSE8 for myself, without messing up my PSE7 catalog??I would like to use all the same photos for both versions so I can accurately test PSE8.

    I am running?Vista 64.

    Jason

    PSE 8 questions

    You can change the tags assigned by face recognition.?There is no integration with Facebook.?You can have multiple versions of PSE installed, and they don't interfere with each other.?When you install the free trial of PSE 8, it will convert a copy of your PSE 7 catalog, leaving the original untouched.

    PSE 8 questions

    Thank you.?I will try PSE8 out.?Bummer with leaving out Facebook integration.

    You can get facebook integration through photoshop.com

    yes,you can run both PSE 7 and PSE 8 simultanously.?All catalogs of PSE 7 can be converted for PSE 8 use .But as far as comparison purpose is concerned ,i will suggest you to create a copy of your old catalog so that you can compare with the new catalog (the one created on using PSE 8) later on.

  • JSX to AppleScript

    Hello, I was wondering how to have a jsx PS script launch faster by creating an AppleScript application to put in the dock or maybe just something in Automator.

    Any ideas?

    JSX to AppleScript

    I avoid AppleScript, so I can’t help You there.

    But if it’s just about avoiding having to scroll through the menus to trigger a Script, one can assign the Script a Keyboard Shortcut or record it into an Action.

    Or in CS4 put Scripts into Configurator Panels.

    JSX to AppleScript

    For an application to put in your dock you could do something like this very basic example. You just have AppleScript perform your JavaScript text return something when done. This should be saved from 'Script Editor' as 'Application' from the file formats (do NOT use the run only option as this means that the script can't be opened and edited a code protection thing)

    set JavaScript to ''myTest();

    function myTest() {

    var docRef = app.activeDocument;

    var docWidth = docRef.width;

    var docHeight = docRef.height;

    var docSize = docWidth + ' x ' + docHeight

    return docSize

    }''

    tell application ''Adobe Photoshop CS2''

    activate

    do javascript JavaScript ¬

    show debugger on runtime error

    set x to the result

    display dialog x giving up after 2

    end tell

    Hmmm can't understand what this would do

    Would it launch the jsx file into PS or is it possilbe to have an all-inclusive application that runs the code as well?

    Thanks

    Oh, you mean replace the content of the myTest function with all the jsx code? sry

    In the above is a very basic piece of JavaScript which is nothing more than a string of text a far as AppleScript is concerned. This string is then played out by Photoshop as a script. It should return a value to AppleScript to display a dialog about the active documents height %26amp; width. The JavaScript can perform a whole process of commands if you want it to. All you are doing here is wrapping a JavaScript inside of an AppleScript application. If you save the above out to app then you can put it in the doc and it will run when clicked. (all-inclusive)

    Yes the JavaScript code can just sit inside of the AppleScript as a text variable in this case 'JavaScript' does that make any sense?

    Mark, I'm trying to follow this not knowing anything about AppleScript.

    It' looks like you are calling the js function, not the script( although in this case the entire js script is the function ). That is to say if I run that js scirpt in ESTK there would be no result as the js script does not call the function myTest(). For example if the script was just 'alert(''Hello World'');' could that be called from AppleScript?

    Which leads to my next question. Must the js return something?

    Both of those questions set aside the fact that it might be possible to do with AppleScript alone.

    Mike

    I tried replacing my jsx code inside either the '' '' or the function curly brackets but it's returning errors like it's not recognizing the syntax.

    It stopped at a . for instance

    Mike the above snippet of JavaScript returns the document size '183.499998 mm x 133.749999 mm' to the JavaScript Console for me when run in ESTK. There is a function call there its just before the function itself. JavaScript need NOT return anything back to AppleScript although I would return something just so that I know it was successful. The normal result when performing JavaScript is that of 'undefined'. If I save the following to '.jsx' on my desktop.

    #target photoshop

    app.bringToFront();

    alert(''Hello World'');

    Then I can run this script as an external file too it's just read-in as text. Like this

    set JavaScript to choose file

    --

    tell application ''Adobe Photoshop CS2''

    activate

    do javascript JavaScript show debugger on runtime error

    end tell

    There is also the option to pass arguments too

    Hmmm so any idea how to write the AppleScript?

    I tried pasting my code here

    set JavaScript to ''

    %26lt;CODE PASTED HERE%26gt;

    }''

    tell application ''Adobe Photoshop CS4''

    activate

    do javascript JavaScript ¬

    show debugger on runtime error

    end tell

    or even

    set JavaScript to ''myTest();

    function myTest() {

    %26lt;CODE PASTED HERE%26gt;

    }''

    tell application ''Adobe Photoshop CS4''

    activate

    do javascript JavaScript ¬

    show debugger on runtime error

    end tell

    But I get errors like these:

    Syntax Error

    A “,” can’t go after this “''”.

    Syntax Error

    A “''” can’t go after this “''”.

    Syntax Error

    A identifier can’t go after this “''”.

    Any quotation marks in your javascript will need to be escaped (or use single quotes for strings). Otherwise, Applescript will assume that quotation mark to be the end of the string you are setting into your variable, and will try to compile the rest of the Javascript code as if it were Applescript code.

    Thanks Mark, what do you mean by ''escaped'' ?

    I replaced all '' with '   but it's giving

    Syntax Error

    Expected “''” but found unknown token.

    Hmm still haven't sorted it out... any ideas?

    Any chance of posting the .jsx file's code up here or e-mail it so we can see what we are dealing with. Did you also try the option of just running the file as an external file?

    As you are looking at saving your script as an .app so that it can be added to the dock, finder window sidebar or toolbar you also have the following option that you may wish to try out. This way you should NOT need edit your JavaScript at all if it works just fine when executed.

    set JavaScript to (path to me as Unicode text) %26amp; ''JS_Test.jsx'' as alias

    --

    tell application ''Adobe Photoshop CS2''

    activate

    do javascript JavaScript show debugger on runtime error

    end tell

    Here I just saved the above out as an application bundle. Once this is done control click on it to show package contents and pop your saved .jsx file inside the package. You will need to edit the name of the string in the first line to match the file in which you are placing.

    Oh that's cool, it works

    Any way to protect the app so the jsx is unaccessible/locked/password-protected?

    You can convert it to a binary format (jsxbin), but that just adds more complexity whether or not AS is involved.

    As far I know the AppleScript 'main.scpt' can be protected by choosing the 'run only' option when saving the application bundle. Remember to ONLY check this box with a COPY of your script or you will NOT be able to edit later. I don't think that you can protect the 'resources' themselves but you could look into that. You can hide them by using shell to put them in your package but that does NOT offer any level of security just keeps some of the curious away. Im NOT familiar with X's solution but Im sure it would be the best way to go.

    Hmmm that used to work but is now giving

    Expected end of line, etc. but found identifier.

    and highlights the word javascript on 5th line

    can't find a reason why?

    Flickr API & crossdomain.xml

    My flickr stream is not loading onto the page. I am using the following code to make it work:

    Security.allowDomain(''http://api.flickr.com/crossdomain.xml'');
    Security.loadPolicyFile(''http://api.flickr.com/crossdomain.xml'');

    I also did always allow in the HTML. Is there a problem with that code?

    Flickr API %26 crossdomain.xml

    Deleted.

    Sorry, there are cross domains there at http://api.flickr.com/crossdomain.xml - forum links added '');''

    Flickr API %26 crossdomain.xml

    Since there is crossdomain. xml that allows access from any domain, what makes you think that it doesn't stream because of security issues?

    I was getting an error when I published it originally from flash.. and when I publish the .swf file the images do load and it works fine. When I add the same file to the server - nothing loads at all. It doesn't even try to load... What type of error do you think it could be?

    What error do you get when you publish swf?

    When I use this code instead of the 2 lines from my original post:

    System.security.loadPolicyFile(''http://farm1.static.flickr.com/crossdomain.xml'');

    I get this error: 1119: Access of possibly undefined property security through a reference with static type Class.

    This error is legitimate for there is no System.security - syntax in the original post is proper.

    Why do you think that you cannot stream because of of the security issues? What kind of assets do you stream?

    Also, I have noticed that address has ''farm1'' prefix. If they redirect requests to different servers - you need to get policy from corresponding address too. Policy from farm1 will not work if asset is on farm2, farm3, etc.

    Thank you Andrel1!

    I needed to call them all. This code worked:

    Security.loadPolicyFile(''http://api.flickr.com/crossdomain.xml'');
    System.security.loadPolicyFile(''http://farm1.static.flickr.com/crossdomain.xml'');
    System.security.loadPolicyFile(''http://farm2.static.flickr.com/crossdomain.xml'');
    System.security.loadPolicyFile(''http://farm3.static.flickr.com/crossdomain.xml'');
    System.security.loadPolicyFile(''http://farm4.static.flickr.com/crossdomain.xml'');

    You are welcome.

    I would like to suggest you make it more dynamic. What if they introduce farm22 server in their load balancing and you don't have explicit security check for it?

    You may want to explore checkPolicyFile = true property on requested asset (LoaderContext, NetStream, etc.) directly. The beauty of this approach is that Flash does it automatically only once for each url - so if you request the next asset from the same url and policy is checked - Flash will not do it again, but if it is a new url - it will. You don't have to worry about where your assets come from.

    Removing date stamps placed on images...

    When taking some photos with a Nikon digital camera, the button that places a date stamp on the image as the picture is taken was inadvertantly on.

    Now I am trying to remove this data from the image and am wondering if anyone knows a fast way of doing this.

    I can tediously remove the pixels involved but then can't seem to fill in the gaps with something else. The usual replace color capabilities don't seem to work either.

    What am I missing?

    Thank you.

    Removing date stamps placed on images...

    I would think the best tool for that sort of thing would be the clone tool. Hold alt and click over an area close to the text that you want tyhe text to be replace by, and then draw over the text to replace it with the area of the image you sampled. You have to be carfull to make it look well done. You may also find the blur tool can give it a nicer finish after replacing the text.

    Removing date stamps placed on images...

    Thanks Ricky-T for responding.

    Clearly this is a rather obscure query.?I will certainly try out your idea.?It is looking like there is no 'quick fix' for this issue.?Time to perfect the cloning tool :-) I think I have run into one of those ''features for people looking to order their snapshots'' features that are built into some cameras but you really wish weren't there.

    Nothing wrong with that unless you were going to use the image in a more advanced, if not advanced, application.?Shows you what can happen when you're thrust into a different time zone under the influence of jet lag.?Gak.

    You can use the Date Removal Tool - no, I am only kidding here.

    Unfortunately, you have created an image with the date/time as part of your image. There is nothing ''below'' this. The best that you can do is try and recreate the area of the image that WOULD be below that part of the image.

    As has been stated, the Clone Stamp Tool, and also the Healing Brush/Patch Tool will go a very long way. If one uses these at a high magnification, it does require some hand-work, and a good eye, but can be done.

    For what it is worth, the video folk are broken into two camps. Half want to ''remove'' this, and half wants to ''add'' this, regardless of which camera they used. If only they could get together, and all would be happy.

    Hints: look closely, so slowly and small, and be patient with your efforts.

    Good luck,

    Hunt

    If you select the text (with a slightly enlarged and feathered selection) you won't destroy more pixels than strictly necessary. Clean up afterwards.

    Thanks folks for your replies.

    Yes, I got the clone tool to work.?[I have just recently upgraded from CS to CS4 and this was one that wasn't available before.]

    And as you said, you just have to go slowly and be ''creative'' in the sense of imagining what would have been in the photo at those pixels.

    I think I'm using a 3 pixel brush or something like that.

    And I'm not surprised that there are two camps on this one.......there seems to be two camps on everything these days. :-)

    Appreciate your time.

  • Customer with CS4 and 10.5.8,...

    I got a customer with three computers (2 Mac Pro, the first one was bought a year ago, the second one was recently acquired, latest model) and a MacBook 13'' Aluminum, all experiencing this issue.

    The weird thing here is that for the last months Illustrator (and sometimes Photoshop as well) crashes, in the 1-year old Mac Pro it's usually with big files (800MB +), while the newest Mac Pro is with both big and small ones (it crashes randomly). The MacBook started crashing a couple of days ago.

    When I checked the logs, it had around 15 crashes in two weeks of usage (I'm submitting some logs as reference, these ones are from the Guest Account). Altho there were some font issues (duplicates, like Arial, Impact, etc.), I tried using a Guest Account, the programs ran a little bit longer, but when I tried to save them, during the process it crashes again.

    I suggested the customer to format and re-install everything, but I wanted to make sure it would fix the issue, to avoid it showing up again after formatting and re-installing everything.

    Something else that I noticed (switching slightly topics) is that while I was checking the Activity Monitor, it would say that Illustrator was only using %26lt;2 GB of RAM. One of the Mac Pros has 12 GB, would there be any way of making Illustrator (or Photoshop) use more so it runs faster? When I was testing the +800 MB file things were kinda slow (considering it's the latest Mac Pro with 12 GB of RAM); would Snow Leopard help?

    Customer with CS4 and 10.5.8,...

    Do you have Suitcase Fusion 2 install if so perhaps you should reinstall and use the latest updated version.

    You might have to enable their Preference Pane in the System Preferences I think it is Called FM Core Services.

    It sounds like a font as that is something that the computers might share.

    @Wade: If it's a font issue it should have been fixed in the Guest Account, since it loads everything fresh, unless the fonts are installed in /Library/Fonts and not in ~/Library/Fonts. The customer doesn't use Suitcase, he uses Font Book. The weird thing with this, tho, is sometimes when I tried to fix the duplicate fonts, in some situations it wouldn't fix it at all or, randomly, it would select (highlight) fonts that were close to the one having issues. So, probably the easiest fix would be formatting, re-installing and making sure that all the fonts that are installed are placed within ~/Library/Fonts/? Or there might be chances that the issue persists even after making a completely clean install?

    @Mylenium: In other words, unless Adobe releases some sort of update, there isn't really a real benefit in installing Snow Leopard to improve the performance/speed of CS4? Would writing in the terminal hwprefs cpu_ht=false help in this case?

    How to embed custom data to form

    Hi!

    Is there some recommended way to embed custom static data to the form? For example movies catalog in XML. When I create order form, I would like to have a catalog included in it. The catalog has categories and using script I would like prepopulate drop down list according to selected category.

    I don't want catalog data be included in submited XML data. Catalog should be part of the form. I also would like prepopulate catalog at design time or using some workflow component.

    I created solution having catalog as form attachments but I expect the should be some more elegant ''storage''.

    I also am able to import nodes into xfa.datasets.

    I also read about extras attribute in XFA specification.

    I guess I'm not the first person trying this, so I don't want to spend time reinventing wheel. Could please anybody give me some advice?

    Thanks,

    How to embed custom data to form

    I used workflow in loading dynamic lists in similar scenario. Once workflow send the response back with dynamic list values I would call the script to load the list in Dropdown. This is just an idea you still have to do coding. Since this involves workflow I can only offer ideas not the real solution.

    How to embed custom data to form

    Well, that sounds to be a good way. I can use webservice to ask backend for data and fill the lists. If I do it on server side using Adobe Forms, I got prepopulated PDF as I need. But I don't have Adobe Forms on this project nor have users on-line to call webservice.

    I bet there have to be some place in XFA structure to store user data.

    ''AIR file is damaged'' error on Update...

    I've searched the forum and come close to an answer (seems there is a problem with Vista on networked drives), but this does not address my issue.

    When I use ApplicationUpdaterUI, I get the update message and I run into problems with Download Now, either Install Now or Install Later:

    • Install Now: It downloads the installation, but then says ''Sorry...AIR file is damaged''.?However, this same AIR file has no problem if I launched it after downloading it manually.
    • Postpone Until Restart: When the app restarts, it goes into ''Waiting for the application to exit'' and just sits there.?If I manually exit the application, then it goes through the update with no problem.?I thought it was at first because my ''closing'' attribute goes and asks the user for verification (via Alert), but when I removed that, it still has a problem closing the app.?Is there a hook in which I can see if this forced exit is being called?

    Thanks for any insights into this!

    Flash cs4 constantly crashing

    i convined by boss to splash out on flash cs4 for work to make the website. it worked fine for about a week. now, when i try to start it, it just starts to load then crashes. it looks as if it is going to load then doesn't. i have tried uninstalling, rebbotiong in safemode and using various registry programs and reinstalling but none help

    anyone have an idea of what to do?

    Flash cs4 constantly crashing

    Have you updated Flash to 10.0.2?

    Have you installed any fonts during the week?

    Flash cs4 constantly crashing

    we haven't updated anytring as we're waiting on a new internet connection while we switch company. as far as fon'ts go, we haven't updated any

    When you're able to, I'd recommend updating to 10.0.2. Many crashes were fixed in that update, including those that happen when you start Flash. Note that there's also an executable up on the Adobe website if you're able to grab it from a different computer (what computer you're on now?) and copy it to the one without the connection. You don't need to use the updater in Flash.

    I hope this solves it for you,

    Jen.

    GPU assisted editing.

    AMD Ships ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series DirectX 11-Compliant Graphics Cards

    The future of NLEs is here!

    At least, what should be the future of NLEs - GPU assisted video tasks using OpenCL.?While the new 5800 series of ATI cards is very impressive from a gaming standpoint, something most regular Premiere users will recognize as overkill, they are also OpenCL 1.0 compliant.?This means software programmers can take full advantage of the parrallel processing power of that card (and that power is massive!) to assist with whatever tasks they program it for.?This can not only mean things like faster H.264 exports, like that currently offered by nVidia's CUDA technology, but it can also mean render free HD editing with multiple streams and effects; faster encoding to several formats, not just H.264; and render free scaling, motion and opacity.

    All we need is for Adobe to move past the limited* CUDA support and adopt the more open standard of OpenCL, which works on both nVidia and ATI enabled cards.

    *and limiting, as many people prefer ATI

    GPU assisted editing.

    Impressive.

    Maybe something that I'll need to consider for the new workstation. By the time I get around to shopping for hardware, the could well be implementation in PrPro - or maybe not.

    Thanks,

    Hunt

    PS - though I have had zero issues with my nVidia cards, far too many have.

    I've got a template page that runs a query based on the page name in the url. The query gets all the code for that page from the database. No problems there. The data is mostly html and the page displays wonderfully.

    The trouble I'm having is that any included CF code doesn't run.

    How do I get the server to evaluate the code coming back in the query so it properly runs the code prior to dumping it on to the page?

    Thanks in advance.

    Write it to a file and cfinclude the file.

    I get better customer service than this...

    I am so sick of adobe and their non support and non english speaking geek squad!?Could someone please tell me where to get a international english language file to download because my trial version of cs4 is set to english and the serial number they gave is set to international language so it will not accept my serial number??Wouldn't it just be easier to give me a serial number that is for english and not international?What the heck is the difference anyway??Why does it matter??I changed the date on my computer so the trial version would expire so I could put in the serial number again-as they suggest-and nope it still doesn't work and I have no working cs4 now!?

    I'm with Adobe and will contact you privately to get contact info so that I can get you some help.

    You just sounded like the 'non support geek squad' he described in his original message, Buko. I'm sure Adobe DOES know how to assist him.

    Get onto the Adobe support site and try the web chat. I was able to untangle my academic licensing issues quite quickly through the web chat. I'm now happily using my copy of CS4.

    how to use https inside flex with 2-way...

    I've got a Flex app which provides a front-end for doing?basic CRUD db operations. The app is served up from a Tomcat/Blaze server using 2-way authentication and uses Java objects to do the server-side db work. Serving the app works fine. The problem arises when the data components in the app try to call back to the server to pull data from the db. The HttpService template needs to be https://... but the call cannot complete because Flex does not provide a certificate to the server as the browser does.

    Using http://... works fine but then the db data is sent in the clear (which is very bad).

    What is the standard way to solve this problem? Is there a way to get Flex to use the same cert that the browser provided?

    Thanks for any assistance!

    Have you checked with?Nik for updates??They've fixed several bugs in their plugins recently.

    I have contacted them and nichols.?Nik was working fine until I added color munki and ''sallee solutions''.?Thanks for the tip, I suspect it is not Nik since that had been working.

    Page Tiling is Way Off -- fixable?

    I'm running Illustrator CS3 (13.0.2) under an evaluation copy of Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit (build 7100) and the page tiling for my Photosmart printer is way off and mighty peculiar to boot. A ''new'' file may show the correct margins, but once I've gone into ''print,'' and back to the file, the tiling shows 1/4'' all around, as for the Laserjet (which is the default printer). Or the tiling lines may appear well outside of the page outline -- and double, with one set about 3/8'' larger all around. A file I keep as a template for a plain 8 1/2x11'' portrait layout opens with the tiling lines in the right place, but also changes as above once I've gone into ''print'' and come back to the file. The print preview shows 1/4'' margins all around, and prints to that size, meaning anything laid out (lain out?) to the page tiling is off the 1/2'' margin of the Photosmart. A similar ''template'' file for landscape does the same. (Landscape page tiling has always been wonky -- that is unchanged or maybe worse, with tiling lines for both layouts, doubled, etc.)

    This is some kind of a system problem, not an Illustrator or perhaps even an Adobe software problem (it's the same in Photoshop though I don't often print from PS so it's not bothersome there), but I thought someone here might have had the same problem or one like it.

    I 'm using the latest printer driver -- insofar as there is a ''latest:'' for Vista 65bit--, but HP didn't much want to install it to Win7 -- it did install when I chose the?''install with recommended settings'' button.

    Any input will be appreciated. (Except don't tell me to get CS4, I tried for a month to get the copy I bought to install and spent days' worth of phone hours to accomplish nothing, finally got some of my money back and decided to wait for CS5 or until I find non-Adobe programs to do some or all of the jobs... whichever comes first...)

    TIA

    Page Tiling is Way Off -- fixable?

    Have you considered creating a user-defined default document profile for the printer in teh printers control panel? Sounds like the print engine is querying those values and the system simply returns %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;what it thinks%26lt;%26lt;%26lt; are correct settings based on your printer default. Also check, which printer language it's using. It often makes a huge difference of PS vs. PCL. vs. WinPrint (GDI+). If all else fails, an alternative may be to save as PDF and print from Acrobat. It has a much better handle on such things. AI is really quite limited in that regard...

    Page Tiling is Way Off -- fixable?

    %26lt;Have you considered creating a user-defined default document profile for the printer in teh printers control panel?

    That doesn't seem to be an option with this printer, at least not anywhere I can find.

    %26lt;Sounds like the print engine is querying those values and the system simply returns %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;what it thinks%26lt;%26lt;%26lt; are correct settings based on your printer default.

    But the printer default (letter, document, meaning with the normal printer margin of .25'' top and sides, about .4'' on the bottom) should return the correct margins, shouldn't it? (.25'' all around is the default for the Laserjet, but it makes no difference whether the default printer is the Photosmart or the Laserjet)

    %26lt;Also check, which printer language it's using. It often makes a huge difference of PS vs. PCL. vs. WinPrint (GDI+).

    %26lt;Far as I remember it's PCL like all the other HP printers we've had?--can't find that in the properties tabs either and put the manuals somewhere where I knew I could always find them... (bet I can download them)

    Illustrator has never liked that printer much -- CS2 crashed if I changed the settings (which was nearly always necessary) from its printer setup function. And CS3 still gets absolutely crazy with page tiling if I change the page setting from portrait to landscape. I don't remember if PS has the same troubles.

    %26lt;If all else fails, an alternative may be to save as PDF and print from Acrobat. It has a much better handle on such things. AI is really quite limited in that regard...

    What I did, and should have thought of first thing!?was put a guide on the lower page tiling line of the template file (for printing custom-sized labels and sets of photos, has centers and cut lines marked) as soon as I had the template file?on the screen. The tiling lines are correct to the printable area of the Photosmart until the print function is evoked.?Then when I'm designing and spacing labels etc., I'll know where the lower boundary is.

    Saving as a PDF isn't very practical for this stuff as my husband is of the nibbled to death by ducks, or millimetres, school of design and will have me making mm adjustments for hours on a label which to be stuck on a hard hat (and thus wrinkled and distorted, as a rule). Every time he needs a new set or a reprinting of an existing badge. (Hmmm... if I PDFed the file and told him it was unchangeable...)

  • benzoyl peroxide
  • solutions to make trial version full...

    I guess I am just stupid because I am just not getting this.?

    I have the trial version of cs4.?Now have the serial for the full.?It won't accept it because the language is different for the serial than the trial.?I tell adobe this and they of course send me on to some online instructions that make no sense to me.?

    ''install the required language files from the cs4 installation media...''

    After searching for an hour for the language pack I download it like it says.?I try to install and it tells me no.?

    ''start the installer again''?in options dialog box where you are asked about language...''

    I never get to the installer box to do so.?

    Where is the installer box, because when I click on my little blue box to open the installer it goes straight to the box asking me for my serial number.

    I am seriously considering asking for a refund because their instructions didn't even include a link for the language pack instead I had to go searching for it myself.?If I contact them they will just pass the question on to the next person.
