Book Page Numbering Options -- Last...

At the head of an article in a academic journal I would like to place:

Name of Journal 123:4 (2009) x-y

where x is the first page of the article and y is the last page number of the article, using the ''insert variable'' approach.?And this works.

This enables article to be referenced easily by other authors wanting to cite the article.

The real problem is that I would also like to have all articles start on right-hand pages.?That I can also do.

In printing to PDF for production purposes, I want InDesign CS4 to insert blank pages.?This I can do with Book Page Numbering Options..

But since this will cause the last page number to be bumped by one artificially.?If I ask for blank pages to be printed, they are counted in the number of pages for the article/chapter.

What I would really like would be a variable that is last non-blank page number for the current article/chapter.

I suppose that I could put a variable on the last text page (of each article/chapter) and produce a cross reference to include in the line above the title on the first page.?But that is really a crock and a lot of work.

Any better ways of doing this??Obviously InDesign CS6 could handle it, but in CS4??[I said CS6, because Adobe have probably got all the ideas in for CS5 already.]

I don't have any ideas for you, but this does sound like a great feature request, which you can make officially at Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form
